To our amazing friends that have helped us to support so many families,
Ben’s Heroes Trust was set up in 2011 in memory of Ben Loyns with the aim to help children with cancer to access treatment not available on the NHS. Over the last 9 years we are proud to have supported over 268 families to access treatments for their child, and we would not have been able to do this without the help of amazing fundraisers and friends like you.
During 2019 we saw a significant drop off in demand for financial support from BHT which we attribute to Proton Beam Therapy now being available in the UK and to new charities that have similar aims to ours. We are so pleased to now see PBT is available in the UK with units open(ing) in Manchester and London but as a result of these clinics opening we anticipate the need for financial support from BHT to drop off further. As trustees we feel really positive that the gap that we set out to fill has been closed and therefore have taken the decision to wind up the charity.
10th December 2020 will mark 10 years since we lost Ben and were inspired by him to set up Ben’s Heroes Trust in order to ensure other families in the same situation don’t feel quite so alone. It is a meaningful and difficult day for us but one made slightly easier knowing how many families have been helped because of Ben’s legacy. We felt it fitting to wrap up the charity on this anniversary, to end it where it started, with Ben.
As a team we feel proud that the charity was able to provide a financial lifeline to so many families and are incredibly grateful for people like you who gave up so much of your time to support us and the families we worked with. We wouldn’t have been able to do so much without you, so thank you!
