Joe was diagnosed in Feb 2018 with a Medullablastoma brain tumour after he experienced headaches and developed a squint in one eye.
After being seen by an optician and staff at Queen Margaret Hospital, he was rushed over to Edinburgh Sick Kids Hospital for a CT Scan and had to undergo an emergency lifesaving brain operation to remove a build up of fluid. In the same month Joe had 4 MRI scans and a second open brain surgery to remove the tumour at the back of his head.
100% of the tumour was removed, but Joe’s parents were told that it was cancerous, so he would still have to undergo months of further treatment. Joe’s treatment has involved travelling to Germany for Proton Beam Therapy, followed by at least 36 weeks of Chemotherapy at Edinburgh Sick Kids Hospital.
